Pukke pile on the points

The third round of the Assupol Super Club Series took place on Saturday, March 15.

Benoni Rugby Club’s first and u-21 teams were in action at Hoërskool Hans Moore.

The teams squared up against the extremely powerful North West University (NWU) Pukke on a soggy B-Field.

Benoni’s men always knew that they were going to be in for a tough encounter, and this proved to be the case against Pukke.

The u-21s spent the majority of their match behind the poles, as their student opposition rampaged to a 90-3 victory.

The first XV were also convincingly beaten by the team from Potchefstroom, and were on the wrong end of a 70-3 score line.

“We knew that they were going to be hard and we tried our best to counter what they dished up, but it was very difficult,” said Benoni Rugby Club’s public relations officer, Steve Myburgh.

“They don’t play in the Varsity Cup for nothing and they proved this on Saturday.”

The team will be able to rest their aches and pains with a bye this weekend, and will then take on Boksburg Rugby Club away from home, in their final Assupol game, on Saturday, March 29.
