No improvement yet at the call centre

Last year, Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele announced at a council meeting that the call centre service is set to improve.

He said the call centre has been expanded to accommodate 50 additional seats for call takers and dispatchers, adding that 250 call centre positions have been advertised, with the closing date being September 26, last year.

The metro later said it had received more than 100 000 applications and that the human resources department “is currently busy with the capturing and preparation” of the long list and short listing applicants.

It was also said that, due to the high volume of applications received, it will take longer than anticipated before successful applicants start with the actual work.

Following complaints from residents regarding their struggle to get through whenever they phone the call centre, the City Times enquired from the metro about the progress of the hiring process.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said that the metro had interviews with call centre supervisors “two weeks ago” and that they are awaiting an update from their human resources department, for the final date of appointments of call centre operators.
