Ward wins on home course
A total of 51 golfers participated in the Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s Golf Championship, at Benoni Country Club, on Tuesday, February 25.
A special champion was crowned when Benoni Country Club’s Lorna Ward, from the 70-years-old and over division outplayed the “younger” seniors (50-years-old and over) to take the title and win an air ticket to represent Ekurhuleni at the South African Senior Women’s Nationals in George in May.
Playing off a 10 handicap Ward scored a gross total of 82, a remarkable achievement on her home course.
Annalie Goodburn of ERPM won the B-Division scoring an impressive 40 points.
Benoni Country Club won the A-Division team prize and Benoni Lake/ERPM combination won the B-Division.
Prizes were sponsored by Martie Becker.
The next Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s event will take place at ERPM on Tuesday, March 25.
The full results are as follows:
- A-Division champion: L Ward 82 gross, 72 nett.
- B-Division champion: A Goodburn 40 points.
- A-Division (50 to 59): 1 M Becker 75 nett, 2 A Ogden 77 nett.
- A-Division (60 to 69): 1 M de Kock 77 nett, 2 V Tredoux 79 nett.
- B-Division (50 to 59): 1 B Becker 35, 2 T Bailey 34.
- B-Division (60 to 69): 1 J Schiaba (34), 2 G Banek (33).
- 70+ Division: 1 D Maynier, 2 J Corrie.
