Accused hurls faeces at Benoni prosecutor

The accused came more than prepared to his sentencing in the Benoni Regional Court One this afternoon (February 11).

After Magistrate Ian Cox sentenced him to life and 15 years in prison for robbery and murder, he threw faeces at the prosecutor.

Accused Thabo Anthony Kofa Mokoena (29), who was in the dock, unwrapped a disposable plate containing human excrement and threw it directly at prosecutor Thabiso Mosikili.

The court room, which was immediately filled with a horrible smell, had to be evacuated.

Mosikili who described the experience as “shocking” said he ducked as “the missile that was aimed at me” approached.

Most of the poo landed on his table and the floor while some reached his shirt.

Other dockets in his possession were also contaminated.

Some workers in the court corridors joked with the prosecutor saying they would only kiss him after six months.

Mosikili said he plans to lay crimen injuria and assault charges against Mokoena.

All matters still to be heard in Courtroom One were immediately postponed.

The accused, who is already serving another sentence, was brought to court from the jail by prison warders.

When the City Times reporter entered the court courtroom it was still filled an awful smell and the excrement was still noticeable.

Magistrate Ian Cox was not available for comment.
