Man SMSed, told where father’s body was hidden

The badly decomposed body of a 59-year-old man was discovered next to Danie Taljaard Park, yesterday evening.

Police found the body of Wattville resident Alfred Bhekicala Manana at 6.45pm.

The man was reported missing by his wife, after failing to return home on Tuesday, January 29.

The deceased is believed to have left home to draw money at a bank in the Benoni CBD.

Actonville Police Station communications officer Capt Mack Mngomezulu said the deceased’s son received several calls from the man believed to be behind the crime, after his father’s disappearance.

The son apparently received calls from the suspect on Saturday, last week, and then again on Monday, telling him where the body was.

Police followed up on the leads but found nothing.

The murder victim’s son received an SMS from the suspect yesterday afternoon, pin-pointing the location of the body, near Danie Taljaard Park.

The man called the son by name when they spoke.

Mngomezulu said it is possible that the man was kidnapped immediately after withdrawing cash and taken to the site where his body was located, before being attacked, robbed and killed.

The Benoni SAPS have opened a case of murder.

They are, at this stage, unsure of the murder weapon used and are awaiting the post mortem report.
