Ward councillor goes the extra mile

Tiffany Oates writes by email:

It is with a very light and grateful heart that I am composing this email about an amazing ward councillor who not only helps, but goes the extra mile to help.

André du Plessis, from Ward 23 in Ekhurhuleni, is not only friendly and compassionate, but always willing to help and go the extra mile, even when things fall outside of his managing areas.

I had several dealings with Mr du Plessis regarding water shortages and power outages while I lived in Brentwood Park. And he even helped my employer sort out issues at her house in Atlasville.

Without me having to contact him, he has always kept me up to date via SMS if there have been unexpected situations and has always followed up with me to make sure my problems in the area have been sorted.

I have recently moved to Rynfield which, much to my disappointment, falls under a different ward.

We recently had water issues in our complex and the managing agents couldn’t assist us with answers and neither could our new ward councillor.

After a very stressful and frustrating day of not having water at our home and not being able to get information from the people who should have it, I decided to call André.

The fact that he was willing to help was very surprising to me, as we are not in his area, but the fact that he assured me that he would do all he could to make sure the issue was resolved, absolutely amazed me.

To make a tough day a lot better, our problem was sorted out less than two hours after my phone call to André.

A man like this honestly deserves the highest form of praise.

I have contacted the DA directly as well, to sing the praises of this wonderful representative.

I decided to send this to the Benoni City Times, so that people can see there are people out there with citizens’ best interests at heart, and also so that we can read about the positives when we experience them and to show people like André that they truly are appreciated.
