Door-to-door campaign on domestic violence

The police in Daveyton held a door-to-door campaign last week, to identify the root causes of assault and domestic violence.

This was after the statistics for December showed an increase in these crimes in the area.

Police spokesperson Capt Alfred Nakana said they were working in conjunction with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and social workers from the Mercy Haven place of safety.

“A lot of people we interviewed said that drugs and alcohol are behind the crimes,” said Nakana.

“We issued pamphlets containing information advising the victims of these crimes on where to seek help.”

The campaign started in sector one and is expected to move to other sectors as well.

“We will then try hard to rid the area of drugs and encourage responsible drinking,” said Nakana.
