Petersen’s photographic journey captured in a book

Former East Rand resident and photographer Neville Petersen held his book launch at Laerskool Northmead, on November 9.

“On Assignment in the Old South Africa” is Petersen’s photographic journey through history.

The photos in the book were taken over a 10-year period, from 1981 till 1991, while he worked as a photographer for various national papers, like the Citizen and The Star.

The book contains pictures taken in various townships during the apartheid era, pictures of former South African president Nelson Mandela, Steve Hofmeyer, Winnie Mandela, a number of sports stars and celebrities.

The book took him approximately two years to compile.

It was initially over 500 pages and was cut down to 245 pages.
