New addition to football development

Young Stars Football Club, established this year, participated in the Benoni Spurs FC 35th anniversary tournament, over the weekend of October 5 and 6.

The club, whose players participated in an actual tournament for the first time, were overwhelmed with excitement and the enjoyment of playing six matches against opposition from various towns.

The support and interest in this, the latest youth development club, was extremely inspiring.

The club have 30 players, from four to seven years old, and three divisions (u-5, u-6 and u-7) focusing on developing and learning through play.

Coach of the participating u-7 team, Ashiq Ellahi, said: “Our boys did us proud, as participation is more important than winning”.

Young Stars have already made an impact in the football arena, with their u-5 team completing a training programme with the Supersport accredited programme, through Little Kickers.

“Our focus over the next three years is to ensure that all our coaches are SAFA accredited and that our youngsters are developed in the best possible way,” said Ellahi.

“Our aim is to make dreams come true for all youngsters in the football world, or in life itself, to build confidence and make a difference.

“Our future lies in our kids of today, and to empower them with skills, talent and development is most important.”
