Central pool renovations underway

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is spending R6-million on the rehabilitation of the Benoni Central Swimming Pool.

El-Sha Consulting, the company in charge of the work, started fixing the property on September 25.

“The swimming pool is being renovated, the walls are being scraped and repainted, new ceilings are being inserted, and new plumbing and wiring will also be put in,” said Ward 73 councillor Samuel Ngobese.

Some of the workers are seen breaking the tiles at the Benoni central pool.

According to Ngobese, the renovations should take about eight months, so the entire procedure should be completed in May or June, next year.

He added that he is relieved that he has finally delivered on his promise of fixing the pool.

“When I was first appointed as a councillor I was constantly asked when the was pool going to be fixed, now at least I have an answer for Benoni residents,” he said.

Ngobese said that the public can come along and have a look while the pool is being renewed.

“The pool is not only being renovated for Benoni residents, we want residents from Benoni’s surrounding areas to also enjoy the new central facility once it has been completed,” he added.

He encouraged Benoni residents to enjoy the pool once it has been completed, and not to destroy it.

“Now that the central pool is being fixed, our next goal is to fix the Benoni Plaza,” he said.
