Rynfield resident (88) stabbed to death in garden

A case of murder has been opened at Benoni SAPS.

The police have launched a manhunt for four men who allegedly stabbed an 88-year-old man to death while he was gardening at his home in Struben Street, Rynfield, at around 10:00 on September 21.

According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele, it is alleged the four suspects gained access to the property by jumping over the wall.

They approached the victim, however, it is not known what they said to him when they confronted him.

“The man’s wife, who was in the house, heard a noise outside and peeked through the window. She saw her husband lying on the ground with two men standing next to him. The wife locked the door and a few minutes later two other suspects demanded she open it,” said Sekele.

It is alleged that the wife pressed a panic button and the suspects fled the scene. According to the police report, the suspect’s vehicle was not seen.

The man sustained multiple stabbed wounds to the upper body and was declared dead on the scene.

A case of murder has been opened at Benoni SAPS, investigations are continuing.

Sekele urges the public to remain vigilant and check their surroundings at all times.
