KFC Mini-cricket programme continues to be impactful

There will be plenty of action at the mini-cricket festival in October.

The KFC Mini-Cricket programme includes 6 640 players, 660 coaches, 27 schools and 20 coordinators from the Ekurhuleni region.

This is according to the co-ordinator of the programme, Julius Maziya, at one of their events at Holiday Inn Boksburg on September 8.

“This event celebrates the successes of the programme. We are honouring the teachers who have been doing a great job. This programme has produced a lot of good cricket players because of the volunteer work of the teachers,” said Maziya.

He added the KFC Mini-Cricket Festival will be held in October.

Wesley Coulentianos, Eastern Cricket Union CEO, said it was good to see the structure of the KFC Mini-Cricket programme growing.

Logan Naina is one of the success stories of the programme. He handed over the KFC bucket loads of good award in the programme.

“Since the days it was the Bakers Mini-Cricket, it has been producing good cricket players. I am also a product of the mini cricket programme.

“It is good to see the passion and enthusiasm of KFC to encourage young people to be cricket players,” said Coulentianos.

Eric Musi, the deputy chief education specialist of Ekurhuleni South, said they had been part of the programme for 47 years and saw good results from the programme throughout those years.

“It is beneficial for learners to be part of the programme because it helps to sharpen their cricket-playing skills and gives them a proper perspective on life.

“The programme has produced a cricket player from Nageng Primary School,” Musi expressed.

Lerato Langa, a physical education teacher at Benoni Primary School, said as a coach she has been part of the programme since 2013.

“The programme is helping introduce cricket to young players. A lot of players come from the programme, including myself. I am a product of the programme. I will continue being part of the programme because I gained a lot of experience from it,” Langa said.
