Golf day raises money for rugby tour

R20 000 raised out of R100 000 needed for the tour.

Yvette le Grange and Meagan and Wayne Day hosted a golf day on June 29 at Benoni Country Club in aid of funding a rugby opportunity for two Benoni High learners, Hendrico Sao Joao and Sebastian le Grange.

An amount of R20 000 was raised out of the R100 000 needed to assist the pair with their educational tour happening from December 6 to 15 in Italy.

Yvette thanked everyone that supported the golf day.

“We hope to raise more funds soon so that the boys can be able to fulfill their dreams and hopefully have a good and lifelong career in rugby,” she said.

The two learners from Benoni High School, Sebastian Le Grange and Hendrico Sao Joao, are set to jet off to Italy in December.

The aspirant rugby players were chosen by Travel and Sport (school tour specialists) to take part in the U19 invitational team.

They were selected based on their performances during a tournament in April and scouted during a match against Krugersdorp High.
During the tour they will be exposed to international competitions, as well as get to sightsee and experience Italy.

The two youngsters started playing rugby for Benoni High when they were still in Tom Newby School and have been playing for the team for six years.
