Members of the Daveyton Royal Council donated food parcels to Khanyiselani Community Centre based in Chris Hani Ext 3, Daveyton.

The spokesperson for the Royal Council, Ramoitheki Madikgetla, said: “We are so glad to have been able to help where we can. Even though it took time to deliver on our promise, we are happy that our beneficiaries will continue with their feeding scheme. Hopefully will do more in the nearer future.”

The founder of the NPO, Lydia Mokoena, expressed gratitude for the donation received.

According to Mokoena, they are doing their best to keep children off the streets, away from crime and drugs.

“During school holidays, children have a lot of time with nothing to do, hence, we created extra-curricular activities where they can interact with their peers away from the streets. We cook twice a day during school holidays.”

Mokoena further mentioned that when schools reopen, they provide their beneficiaries with breakfast every morning to help them kickstart their day.

“I grew up in an unprivileged community and being exposed to such, made me want to lend a helping hand. Making sure that these children are well fed in the morning before they go to school, helps them academically,” said Mokoena.
