EMPD takes R4 000 worth of drugs off the streets

The specialised Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) relay on information from the community regarding suspected drug dealing.

To combat the illegal distribution of drugs, members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit cracked down on four male suspects for the possession with the intent of selling illicit substances.

The men were arrested in Benoni, Cloverdene and Duduza recently.

Acting on information received from the community, officers swooped on two men allegedly selling drugs in Newlands Avenue, Benoni, on May 30.

One of the suspects was found in possession of eight units of rock cocaine with an estimated value of R500, while his 47-year-old counterpart was found in possession of seven units of nyaope, three units of rock cocaine and nine bags of crystal meth, with an estimated street value of R1 400.

The men were arrested on the scene and detained at the Benoni Police Station.

Later that day a 42-year-old suspect was arrested in Hong Kong Street, Cloverdene.

“He was found in possession of a plastic bag containing loose dagga with an estimated value of R1 200,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson.

“He was arrested and detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.”

Continuing with the operation, members of the unit visited a residence in Gadjeni Street, Masitshaba section, Duduza.

“Upon arrival, officers cornered and searched a male suspect, who was found in possession of 24 small bags of dagga and a plastic bag containing loose dagga, with an estimated value of R950,” said Thepa.

“The suspect was arrested and taken to the Duduza Police Station.”

The EMPD applauds the commitment of community members, who report unlawful acts of this nature and assist in keeping the city free from drugs.
