Flying Squad, rapid response enjoy successes

Investigations into all cases are continuing.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and Rapid Response Services (RRS) hit the streets from May 26 to June 4.

During routine operations, BFS arrested 10 suspects while concentrated operations conducted throughout the Gauteng province saw rapid response service (RRS) members making 155 arrests.

Possession of drugs
Seven suspects were brought to book on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Arrests were made in Kaalfontein Ext 2 and 14, Ivory Park, Queens Avenue and High Road, Brakpan, Kempton Park, Esselen Street, Daveyton and Holomisa squatter camp, Dawn Park.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine and meth were seized in separate cases.

Possession of ammunition
During a routine search, officers found a man in possession of live ammunition, on Wenden Avenue, Brakpan.

Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of two live rounds of ammunition as well as an empty cartridge.

Counterfeit shoes
While patrolling the R21, officers stopped a white Toyota Condor to perform a routine stop-and-search.

While searching the vehicle, counterfeit shoes to the estimated value of R10 000 were found.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

Wanted suspect arrested
A man was arrested at the Holomisa squatter camp, Dawn Park.

Officers were executing an arrest warrant about a case of hijacking, which was reported at the Dawn Park Police Station, in November 2019.

Abandoned vehicles
Three abandoned vehicles were found next to Tembisa Mall, Putfontein Road, Crystal Park and Saffron Street, Dalpark.

The vehicles included a white Kia Picanto, a white K2700 as well as a white Toyota Avanza.

The vehicles were reported as hijacked and stolen.

RRS successes
RSS members including Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members made 48 arrests including charges of being in possession of counterfeit goods, assault to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, malicious damage to property, armed robbery, pointing of firearm, being in the country illegally, theft, business robbery, shoplifting, fraud, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of unlicensed ammunition, housebreaking and house robbery.

During operations, 55 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered which included 12 accompanying arrests.

Further investigations led to the recovery of 10 unlicensed firearms as well as eight arrests for possession.

A total of 64 arrests were made on charges of possession of drugs. Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
