Man found dead outside his shack

A murder charge has been opened at the Actonville SAPS.

A 35-year-old man was found dead outside his shack in Emlotheni informal settlement in Actonville on May 3.

According to the Actonville SAPS communication officer Sergeant Gift Chiloane, they received a complaint of murder after the friend of the victim reported his death to police.

“The deceased was found with three gunshots wounds to the upper body. Three cartridges were found on the scene,” said Chiloane.

The 35-year-old deceased man was found lying on the ground outside his shack in Emlotheni.

When the Benoni City Times arrived at the scene just after 10:00, neighbours were gathered outside the man’s shack in disbelief.

One of the residents who was first on the scene, Buyi Yende, told the City Times that she became suspicious when she noticed the gate open as this was unusual.

“I went into the yard and saw the deceased’s hand as he lay on the ground. I didn’t want to look any further and then called other neighbors to come and see,” Yende said.

Family members of the deceased were sitting outside when the City Times arrived at the scene just after 10:00.

The deceased’s brother, Khotso Kau, who was also at the scene, said his relatives fetched him from work.

“My brother was a peaceful person and he never troubled anyone. I don’t know why anyone would want him dead,” he said.

A case of murder has been opened at the Actonville police station.
