Alphen Park man shot dead in front of his family

Police are appealing to anyone with information which could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.

A 34-year-old Alphen Park resident was shot and killed in a suspected attempted house robbery on April 5.

According to information from the Benoni Police Station, the incident occurred at 14:30 in full view of the victim’s wife and children.

“Our information indicates the victim’s wife and children were walking to the garage when four men, two of which were armed, entered the property,” said Captian Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS.

“Realising that their lives were in danger, the woman shouted for her husband, who was inside the house.”

The woman and children were held at gunpoint and told to go back inside.

“The father approached the door to exit the house armed with his personal firearm to defend his family,” she said.

“One of the suspects then shot and fatally injured him. He was declared dead on the scene.”

The report further states that the suspects grabbed the victim’s firearm and fled the scene in a white Volkswagen Caddy, parked outside the residence.

“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate murder and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family,” said Sekele.

“A case of murder and attempted house robbery is currently under investigation.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report it to the police.
