BFS seize large quantity of drugs

Officers arrested the suspects despite being offered a bribe.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) made two arrests and seized a large quantity of drugs during a routine blitz.

On February 20, at 20:30, members conducting a routine stop and search operation pulled a blue Renault Kwid over, at the N12 Tom Jones off-ramp.

“Inside the vehicle officers found 48 bottles of illegal cough syrup,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the unit.

“While being questioned and officers requesting valid documentation relating to the substance, the suspects, aged 46 and 47, allegedly offered the officers R3 000 for their release. They were immediately arrested and the vehicle was impounded.”

Following up on a tip-off, officers were dispatched to the home in Tsakane, on February 22 at 14:00.

“Upon arrival a suspect was seen fleeing over the wall,” said Giblin.

“As members approached the house, they were overwhelmed by the smell of dagga. Eight bags, weighing 300kg in total, was found inside the home.”

Investigations into both matters are continuing.
