BFS recover hijacked tanker

Increased patrols on the N12 ensure that BFS members can react swiftly.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) were not in a loving mood when they successfully recovered a hijacked truck near Etwatwa on February 14.

At 00:15, patrolling members received information through the 10111 call centre that a red and white hijacked Freightliner truck and tanker were travelling on the N12 near Delmas, heading towards Johannesburg.

“Officers made their way to the location while another team, who had passed the truck in the opposite direction, immediately turned around, trailing the truck from a safe distance until backup units arrived,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“As the driver of the truck took the R555 off-ramp towards Etwatwa, officers proceeded to tactically bring the truck to a stop.”

A thorough search of the vehicle was completed and it was found that it had been hijacked in Middelburg.
The driver and passenger were arrested.
