The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) Marathon sponsored by KwikScaff takes place on March 5 at Benoni Northerns Sports Club in Northmead.

While the race is a preferred qualifying race for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons, it has something for everyone this year.

The race offers 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km and 5km events, which are perfect for runners and walkers of all fitness levels.

A race for everyone. The BNAC marathon sponsored by Kwikscaff is enjoyed by elite and social runners.

Children are welcome to run the 5km and 10km events. To run the 10km the children must be 15 years old and older, according to Athletics South Africa’s rules.

There is no age restriction to run the 5km but children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

“We had such a great turnout from children at local schools for the BNAC Night Race in October. It would be awesome to see more kids entering the 5km event to get a taste of a real road race,” said organiser Kerry Webb.

The BNAC Marathon is one of the last Two Oceans qualifiers in Gauteng before the qualifying period closes on March 6.

“We take our job as hosts seriously. Our race participants get well-stocked water stations every 3km with enough water, coke and all the goodies that runners love.

“Recent races have been marred by lack of water at the water stations as well as issues with parking. A lot of race organisers are not allowing entrants to collect their race numbers on race day. This means people have to make two trips – one to fetch their race number and then of course, to run the race.

“For people coming from far, this is becoming a major gripe. We do allow entrants to collect their race numbers on race day as we are there from 04:30,” Webb added.

Reasons to participate in the event:

• Mat-to-mat timing. No scrambling to get to the front.
• Water is in sachets, not bottles, cups or from hosepipes.
• Super route through the Ebotse Estate.
• Friendliest marshals.
• Ample parking right across the road. You won’t have to walk miles from your car to the start.
• KwikScaff sets up an amazing finish.
• Electronic timing by the seasoned pros, Chamberlains in partnership with FinishTime.
• Results are immediate so you can submit your qualifier for Two Oceans before qualifying closes the next day.
• You can collect your race number on race day.

Cobie Smith won the women’s 42.2km race at the BNAC Kwikscaff Marathon (July).
