BFS and RSS crack the whip on criminals

Concentrated operations are continuing.

Routine operations conducted by members of Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), as well as Rapid Response Services, have led to the arrest of 150 suspects on various charges.

Possession of drugs
• From January 20 to 29, members of Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RSS) comprising of the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, arrested 48 suspects on charges of possession of and dealing drugs.

Heroine, dagga, Mandrax, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine were confiscated during these operations.

• Five arrests were further made by BFS members from January 23 to 26 in Rabie Ridge, Barcelona, Etwatwa and Kempton Park.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were seized.

• A man was arrested at Queens Avenue, Brakpan, after it was found that he had crystal methamphetamine.

Arrests
RSS members widened the net by conducting concentrated operations including vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols across the province leading to the arrest of 67 persons on charges of murder, assault, rape, shoplifting, theft, possession of the stolen property, robbery, house burglary, domestic violence and hijacking.

“Officers further managed to track and seize 49 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles leading to the arrest of 18 suspects on charges of having these vehicles,” said Giblin.

“They also recovered 10 unlicensed firearms accompanied by 11 arrests.”

Abandoned vehicles recovered
An abandoned Isuzu truck was recovered in James Wright Street, Norkem Park.

The vehicle had been reported as hijacked in Kempton Park.

Toyota Avanza was found at the Daveyton Railway station, it was reported as stolen in Putfontein.

A brown Renault Clio was recovered in Prince’s Avenue, it was reported as stolen in Daveyton.
