Murphy cats urgently need food

The organisation needs an estimated 100kg of food for all the felines in its care

The Murphy Cat Project (TMCP), in Western Extension, is in urgent need of adult cat and kitten food.

The organisation currently has more than 200 felines in its care requiring about 100kg of food monthly.

According to TMCP founder Cecilia Morris, the organisation mainly focusses on rescuing kittens from feral colonies around the city and beyond or unwanted kittens that are dumped.

“I currently have 14 foster ‘paw-rents’ who assist in feeding and taming the kittens thus making them eligible for adoption,” she said.

“As funding allows, we trap adult cats within the colonies under our care and neuter and return them to the nesting grounds.

“This process in known as Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) and helps to maintain the colony numbers.”

However, with mounting costs, food reserves are running low and urgent assistance in terms of donations is needed to ensure that animals are adequately fed.

Donations in the form of dry cat food can be delivered to the TMCP charity shop at 36 Russel Street or monetary donations can be made directly into the organisation’s bank account.

The banking details are:
TMCP, Standard Bank cheque account, account number 101 652 01175, branch code 051001, reference “Food”.
