BFS duo arrest seven in two days

The suspects aged between 18 and 48 years will be appearing in court soon

Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan Marie Eksteen of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested seven suspects in two days, making this duo a crime fighting force to be reckoned with.

On January 11, at 15:45, the pair responded to a report of a truck hijacking in progress in Olifantsfontein.

“Racing to the scene the officers found the Frontliner truck with two trailers attached on the side of the R562, near the Old Pretoria Road,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“As they approached two suspects attempted to flee into the nearby bushes, where one was arrested. A signal jammer was also recovered.”

On January 12, the officers were conducting routine patrols in Commissioner Street, Boksburg, when they spotted a Mecedes Benz with six occupants, driving recklessly.

The vehicle was brought to a stop, following a thorough search a bag containing two explosive sticks and a detonation cord was found hidden under the driver’s seat.

“The explosives were removed by members of the Germiston Bomb Squad and the suspects were arrested,” said Giblin.

Other BFS successes include the recovery of a white Toyota Fortuner that had been stolen from the Lakeside Mall parking at 17:50 on January 14.

With the assistance of local tracking services the vehicle was recovered and one suspect was arrested.

“A signal jamming device as well as false registration plates were seized,” he said.

During the same period, three persons were arrested in Kempton Park as well as Brakpan, on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Heroine, mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were recovered in the separate incidents.

Two abandoned vehicles were recovered on the N12 at Kraft Road while a reported hijacked vehicle was found in Pallsmore Drive, Tembisa.
