NPOs enlighten communities about HIV/Aids

The official theme for World Aids Day this year is "Equalise'

Local NPOs from Daveyton have called on communities to unite in the fight against HIV and Aids to prevent the spread of the virus.

This was revealed during a World Aids Day candle-lighting service held at Kamohelo Community Development Centre and John Wesley Community Centre on December 1.

Members of the NPOs wore red and white clothing as a symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV.

A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of those affected and infected by HIV/Aids.

During the services, which were attended by staff and beneficiaries, attendees were urged to refrain from stigmatising and discriminating against those infected with HIV and Aids but to rather love and support them.

The official theme for this year is ‘Equalise and Integrate to End AIDS,’ reflecting the gravity of the epidemic’s impact on marginalised communities.

Meanwhile, Crystal Park police in collaboration with members from iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre, Department of Social Development social workers and nurses also took to the streets of Chief Albert Luthuli to educate the public about HIV and Aids.

Clinic services such as testing for high blood pressure and HIV were brought closer to the people while the SAPS also offered its services.
