Metro apologises for delay in refuse removal

The metro is working to resolved the ongoing refuse removal debacle

The Ekurhuleni Metro has issued an apology for the lack of service delivery in terms of refuse removal in Wattville, Daveyton and Etwatwa.

According to the spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini the CoE assures residents that every effort is made to ensure that service providers responsible for providing waste collection services and management of local dumps in the affected areas return to service.

“To protect residents and ensure the general public’s right to a clean and healthy environment, residents are advised to keep their bins within their properties until further notice,” he said.

“We further would like to plead with residents not to resort to illegal dumping if delays cause them with a refuse build-up to the point where it cannot fit in the wheelie bins.”

He continued by requesting that residents place their excess waste into bags, which may be placed next to their bins on days when the collection is advised.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and assure residents that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the disruption is resolved swiftly,” said Dlamini.

“Residents, who have not received waste removal services as per the collection schedule, are urged to report delays to the CoE call centre on 0860 54 3000.”

At the time of going to print no further updates had been received regarding other areas that have not been serviced.

The City Times is following up on the matter.
