Young model is making a tangible difference

Bella considers good deeds being a reflection of a beautiful heart

Newly crowned Toddler and Tween of the World 2022 Izabella Lisa Logan-van Zyl (7) of Rynfield believes modelling has given her the platform to help others.

Izabella scooped the win in the seven to eight age category during a recent three-day pageant in Klerksdorp.

She was also awarded titles for the top model for the highest score and spokesmodel for the highest interview score of all the junior contestants.

From the age of 18 months, mom Ashlynn noticed that young “Bella” had a bubbly personality and enjoyed entertaining others.

“Given her spritely personality and wanting to preserve her confidence, my husband Pieter and I decided to enroll her in modelling,” said Ashlynn.

“She has competed in more than 300 pageants and won many titles. But instead of becoming a pageant queen, Bella has become a compassionate and caring little girl. She’s always looking for ways to help others.”

According to the rules of Toddler and Tween of the World, all participants are required to actively participate in various community outreach projects.

The Rynfield Primary learner immediately jumped at the opportunity, as competing in the competition gave her a chance to do what she loves – helping those less fortunate.

Entrants from All Star Models in Brakpan banded together to host different outreach projects from March. These included assisting the elderly, volunteering at the SPCA and serving the needy at a soup kitchen.

Izabella’s dad, Pieter, won the dad of the world title for dressing according to the Harry Potter theme throughout the three-day pageant.

“Every winter my mom helps to put aside any winter clothes that we have outgrown,” she said.

“With my parents’ help, we hang the clothes from the trees outside for people to take as they need. It makes me happy to see that all the clothes had been taken because then I know whoever took it, will be warm.”

Far from being a little diva, Bella loves immersing herself in play and admits that her Barbie dolls are by far her favourite.

When not taking part in Eisteddfods, she can be found dancing or practising her cheerleading routines.

“I like it when I win crowns because they are all very pretty but my favourite part of taking part in pageants is rewrapping my prizes and donating them to charity,” she said.

“My mom says it’s not about winning titles but making a difference in someone’s life.”
