Taxi owner gunned down in CBD

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the torso

A taxi owner was shot and killed on the corner of Voortrekker Street and Harpur Avenue on October 25.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni Police Station, the 37-year-old victim left his vehicle at the taxi rank and entered a nearby shop.

“He was allegedly followed by two suspects, one armed with a rifle,” said Sekele.

“The suspects fatally wounded the driver but continued firing more shots into the shop as they made their way to an unidentified get-away vehicle. No further injuries were recorded.”

No arrests have yet been made and police are appealing to the public to share any information relating to this incident to the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111 or the MySAPS app.

A case of murder is being investigated.
