WARNING: Rocks thrown from N12 Snake Road bridge

Incidents of rock throwing must be immediately reported to 10111

The Benoni SAPS has in recent weeks recorded five incidents of rocks being thrown at cars travelling on Snake Road, from the N12 Snake Road bridge.

According to Colonel Khumbulani Ndaba, VISPOL commander, the throwing of rocks is a common criminal act which is aimed at forcing the driver of the vehicle to come to a stop.

“Assailants usually wait close to the bridge to hijack vehicles that do stop next to the road to assess the damage,” he said.

“Thus far, this has not been the case, with alert drivers opting to drive to safety.”

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant, especially when driving under bridges at night.

Any suspicious looking persons on or near bridges should be reported to the police’s CrimeStop toll-free hotline on 08600 10111.
