Mayor dismisses rumours Ekurhuleni coalition could follow Joburg

Service delivery remains at the top of the agenda for the multi-party coalition

The Ekurhuleni multi-party coalition government said the recent ousting of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) mayor has done nothing to diminish its commitment to ensuring that residents of Ekurhuleni get the service they deserve.

This came after the removal of Mpho Phalatse as mayor of the CoJ and her replacement by ANC regional chairperson Dada Morero, putting the ANC back at the helm of the city.

According to the Ekurhuleni mayoral spokesperson, Warren Gwilt, after events in the Johannesburg council last week, rumours have been circulating regarding the state of the multi-party coalition government in the City of Ekurhuleni.

“I feel it’s prudent to dispel these rumours and ease the concerns of residents. When we assumed office in November 2021, we undertook to get back to basics to improve the lives of all who live in the city. To date, the multi-party coalition has made great strides in delivering on our mandate,” said Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell.

“The multi-party coalition is making progress in terms of improving service delivery across the city.

“Service delivery remains at the top of the agenda for the multi-party coalition, as it has done for the past 11 months. We are undeterred by rumours, as they are just that – rumours.”
