Police hone in on GBV hot spot

Community members were urged to report GBV cases to the police and not take matters to their own hands

The Daveyton SAPS recently hosted a GBV awareness campaign in Moletlane Street.

Stakeholders including CPF members, the Youth Desk, the Department of Social Development, Black Child is Possible and the Ithemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre were also present to engage with the community.

The awareness campaign comes after community members specifically raised concerns about GBV victims living on Moletlane Street.

According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Constance Moalusi, during the door-to-door campaign about 190 pamphlets were distributed and issues such as substance abuse and sexual offences were brought to the community’s attention.

“We addressed community members according to their concerns, shared safety tips and urged the community to report perpetrators of GBV,” said Moalusi.

She assured the public that the Daveyton Police Station is always open for GBV victims and that abusers will be dealt with accordingly.
