FCS rape convictions include sentencing of 12-year-old perpetrator

The various cases were reported at the Benoni, Etwatwa and Putfontein SAPS

The Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) recently recorded a good conviction rate for June and July after successfully investigating various cases.

• A 12-year-old (now aged 15) was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for raping a four-year-old boy in 2019.
The minor is incarcerated at the Shoshanguwe Child and Youth Care Centre.

According to a police report, the complainant alleged that she was at home when her four-year-old son told her that the accused raped him when he was at a neighbour’s house.

The complainant went to the accused’s house to inform his parents and then went to the Benoni police station to open a case. The case was investigated by Detective Sergeant Mpendulo Masondo.

• A 13-year-old boy was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for sexual assault. Five years has been suspended under conditions that he falls under a probation officer and undergoes a support programme at Teddy Bear Clinic.

It is reported that the victim, aged two and a half, told her mother that the 13-year-old had raped her. The accussed apparently confessed to the crime.

The case was reported at Etwatwa Police Station and was investigated by Detective Constable Sipho Ndaba.

• A 24-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape. He committed the crime when he was 23 years old, on September 18, 2021.

The 53-year-old complainant told the police that while she was sleeping at night was woken up by the door opening and saw the suspect entering, who raped her on her bed.

The case was reported at Etwatwa Police Station and was investigated by Detective Sergeant Lefa Faro.

Life sentences
• A 25-year-old man, who is now aged 28, was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl on July 20, 2019.

According to a police report, a 12-year-old, who went to sleep at a friend’s house, ran back home that night to inform the complainant that her friend’s cousin raped her. Apparently, the accused asked the child to drink beer with him. When she refused, he insisted she drinks the alcohol and raped her.

The child managed to escape to her house when there was a knock at the door and someone came into the room.
The case was reported at Putfontein Police Station and was investigated by Detective Constable Moses van Wyk.

• A 34-year-old man, now aged 35, was sentenced to life imprisonment for a rape he committed on February 27, 2021. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

According to a police report, a 37-year-old complainant went to a tavern and spoke to her ex-boyfriend outside, who then left with his new girlfriend.

An unknown man then came to the victim and told her that he knows where her ex-boyfriend is staying. They then walked together but when they arrived at the address there was nobody home. The stranger started to assault her then took her to a nearby bush and raped her.

The case was reported at Putfontein Police Station and was investigated by Detective Sergeant Mafoko Shokoane.

• A 23-year-old man, now aged 28, was handed two life sentences for a rape he committed on December 1, 2017.

According to a police report, the complaint, aged 14, was playing outside her house when the suspect, a friend of the family, called the complainant’s sister and sent her to the shop to buy airtime.

The suspect subsequently called the victim into the house before dragging her to a room where he raped her twice.

He was found guilty of two counts of rape. Both counts will run concurrently. The case was reported at Putfontein Police Station and was investigated by Detective Sergeant Koena Mojela.

• A 27-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment (25 years) for rape and being in the country illegally (two years). Both counts will run concurrently.

It is reported that the victim was raped in 2019. The crime was only reported in 2020 after the suspect threatened the victim not to speak out.

According to the police report, the 13-year-old informed her father that she was raped while asleep when she visited her cousin.

The case was reported at Etwatwa Police Station and was investigated by Detective Constable Mbali Samela.
