BFS arrest seven during weekend blitz

Suspects aged 18 and 37 years arrested

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) arrested seven people and recovered a suspected stolen vehicle during routine weekend operations, from July 23 to 24.

On July 23, members conducted a routine stop-and-search on the N12, Kraft Road off-ramp.

“Officers stopped a black Toyota Yaris and investigations indicated that the ignition, as well as the license disc, had been tampered with,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the unit.

“The driver could not give valid reasons for the suspected tampering and was arrested on the scene. The vehicle was also impounded, pending further investigation.”

At the N12 Kingsway off-ramp, officers set up a vehicle checkpoint where a white Toyota Quantum was searched.

According to Giblin, the vehicle was transporting illegal liquor from Mozambique valued at R10 000.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested when he could not produce valid documentation for the goods.

“On July 24, while patrolling along the N12 near the Snake Road off-ramp, members pulled over a suspicious-looking white Toyota Quantum,” said Giblin.

“Inside the vehicle officers found six undocumented foreigners. The suspects have been arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station.”

Investigations are continuing.
