EMPD nabs Mozambican national for carrying explosives

The other suspects fled the scene

Responding to a tip-off, EMPD members as well as members of the Etwatwa EMPD Equestrian Unit arrested a Mozambican national for being in possession of explosives.

According to Kelebogile Thepa, EMPD spokesperson, members received information from a reliable source that a group of men carrying a black sports bag will be at the Engen garage, on the corner of Eiselen and Thlakwana streets, just after 9:00 on July 10.

“The whistle-blower stated that explosives are concealed within the bag,” she said.

“Upon arrival, officers identified the suspects who fled to a nearby taxi rank. The man carrying the bag was, however, arrested.”

Officers found 40 blasting innopak 32 mb cartridges and 44 shock tube detonators.

“The suspect was detained at Daveyton Police Station.”
