WATCH: Retired teachers continue to celebrate with each other

Kgalema Intermediate School former teachers maintains a good relationship with each other

Reviving friendships dating back to 30 years ago, a group of retired teachers of Kgalema Intermediate School, based in Daveyton, got together for lunch and to catch up at the Lakeside Mall Spur Restaurant on July 4.

The former colleagues have made it a tradition to meet up once a month to celebrate each other’s birthdays and support each other during bereavements or any other circumstantial events.

Speaking to the group of professionals who gathered at the restaurant to celebrate their former colleagues whose birthdays are from January to June, they shared that they are enjoying every moment of their retirement.

Dressed in red were some of the former teachers who celebrated their birthdays between January and June.

Beryl Mokae, who has a teaching career of 40 years, said despite the challenges that they faced in the classrooms, teaching brought so much joy and they have met wonderful colleagues who they are continuing to reconnect with even after their retirement.

“Now that we’ve retired we do community work and assist at church,” said Mokae.

Amongst some of the attendees was former Kgalema Intermediate School principal Dr Mamosa Moema who retired in 2017 after having taught at the school for 34 years.

The eldest teacher, Ester Nkadimeng (80), who retired at the age of 60, shared that at her farewell party a limousine was hired for her by Popiki Bolosha who, along with other colleagues, made her day extra special.

The group of ladies will again meet to celebrate their colleagues whose birthdays are from June to December.
