Support the Mandela Day Food Drive on Saturday

The clubs are aiming to have 6 700 non-perishable food by July 18

The public is encouraged to visit the Farrarmere Shopping Centre on July 2 to donate tinned food and pet food in support of Benoni Aurora Rotary Anns and Round Table Golden East 181 Mandela Day initiative.

Representatives from both clubs will be stationed outside the Farrarmere Pick n Pay to collect donations of tinned food.

In May, two trolleys with tons of tinned food, including pet food, were filled – all thanks to Good Samaritans.

The clubs are aiming to have 6 700 non-perishable food by July 18, which will be distributed to various organisations including animal shelters on the East Rand.

On July 16, the public is invited to visit Round Table Golden East 181 clubhouse at 2 Klein Street, Lakefield to spend 67 minutes making a difference.

Both clubs will create the longest line using food cans, approximately 6.7km, in an attempt to break the current world record of the longest line of food cans, which is 3.28km.

The entrance fee includes five cans of food or a donation of any amount.
