UPDATE: Police search for suspects after female officer shot

The Daveyton police are mourning the loss of one of their colleagues, Constable Prudence Maseko, who was shot and killed in Putfontein on June 23.

The 34-year-old was attacked by suspects while on her way to work at the Daveyton SAPS where she worked for 10 years.

According to the Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Atlenda Mathe, Maseko was shot several times and disarmed.

The latest incident comes after a Benoni Flying Squad’s Warrant Officer Mokgadi Joseas Mpepe was shot dead while conducting crime prevention duties with his colleague just after the N12 Ewatwa off-ramp on June 13.

His colleague, Constable Nhlapo, was airlifted to the hospital after he was found unconscious with gunshot wounds.

According to police reports, members from the K9 Unit of the SAPS were patrolling along the N12 highway when they noticed a state vehicle along the highway between Delmas and Daveyton.

Mpepe had been shot in the head and was found on the road next to the police vehicle.
