BCC tennis hosts successful tournament

The club will host the BCC furious challenge on March 20.

Jason Harris and Delia Agliotti clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Benoni Country Club (BCC) Tennis Championships on March 6.

Harris beat Neal Redfern in straight sets to win the men’s title. He won the match 6-1 6-0. Agliotti defeated Helen Michaelides 6-2 6-3 for the women’s title.

Aryton Vermaak beat Greg Strecker in the men’s third-place play-off. In the ladies’ match, Denley McCulloch beat Traci Cowell 6-3 6-4 for the win.

Matthew Reynolds won the men’s back draw final after beating Prinsloo 3-6 6-3 10-4. In the ladies’ final, Kirsten Cowell beat Taythum Redfern 6-0 6-0.

Vermaak and N Redfern won the men’s doubles after beating Luke Clifton and Strecker 6-2 6-3. Debbie Charge and Agliotti took the ladies’ doubles after beating Kiera Floyd and T Redfern for the title.

Strecker and Shelly Floyd defeated the team of Floyd and T Redfern 6-4 6-2 to clinch the mixed doubles title.
Bronwyn Cottle and Connor Morgan were awarded the most improved players. Vermaak won the chairman’s award.

BCC tennis chairperson McCulloch told the City Times she was pleased with the great tennis played in the tournament.

The men’s doubles were tightly contested.

“It was a successful club championship. The weather was good over the six-week duration of the tournament. The tennis was great, and the completion was challenging.

“Players and spectators had fun. Our players have improved a lot, and it was exciting to see new members enter the championship,” she said.

The club will host the BCC furious challenge on March 20. McCulloch said members and non-members are welcome to enter.
