WATCH: Dancers want to take the world by storm

Seven dancers from Dynamic Dance Studio in Rynfield will be representing the country at the World Freestyle Championship in June.

This year’s event will be hosted in Blackpool, England, and Linda Lamprecht, studio owner and instructor, believes the athletes have what it takes to bring home the championship titles.

The talented dancers took to the floor at the Easter Freestyle and Disco Dance Championships in Boksburg on February 26.

“Our dancers are phenomenal and bring an electrifying energy to the floor,” she said.

“Four of our dancers qualified to take part in the premiere champs for girls and championship for boys. Three additional dancers will take part on an intermediate level.”

Excited about the opportunity to take to the international stage after two years, the dancers agreed the continuous work they put in during lockdown was bearing fruit.

Russel Wells (8) will be the studio’s youngest entrant and hopes that taking part in a prestigious event will encourage other boys to live out their passion for dance.

“I practice my moves and flips at school and other boys cannot believe I am a dancer,” he said.

“Living my dream shows them that dancing is extremely technical and, in some instances, acrobatic.”

For the girls, dance has given them an outlet to express themselves, although they all admit to being shy and reserved.

“I started dancing when I was seven. I am quite shy, but once I move that fades away and I can express myself,” said Maryna Theunissen (17).

“I am excited at the prospect of competing internationally.”

As the dancers polish their routines, the dance studio will host fund-raisers to aid the participants on their journey to the United Kingdom.
