Hoërskool Hans Moore wins Finsbury Super League

The team competed in the B-Division and they won the league with five points.

The Hoërskool Hans Moore Cricket Academy (HMCA) are champions of the Finsbury Super League, competing in the B-Division and winning with five points.

“I take pride in what we have achieved as a team. This is a proud moment for the school,” said coach Paul Amorim.

The team went into the league high in confidence following a successful tour of Cape Town in January. Amorim said the tour set the tone for his team.

“In Cape Town, we learnt this team can compete.

“That tour helped them to believe in their abilities. We came back knowing we can compete against and beat the best schools in the country. We wanted to carry that form into the league,” said Amorim.

“It helped us create a team culture, and the results are showing on the field.”

Amorim said the synergy between the players made his job easy. This, he said, allowed him to focus more on the technical aspects of the game.

“The players are fulfilling their roles very well. They are scoring runs consistently and the individual performances are good. We have a balanced squad and all the players are skilful.

“From a fielding perspective, we need consistency. But our batting and bowling have been our strengths.

“The batsmen are stepping up and taking responsibility with the bat.

“Our bowling has improved. We have a balance of pace and skill, and that balance is very important for us because teams are struggling to bat 50 overs against us.”

He added he was blessed with good players and that some individual performances were important for the team, as they set a solid foundation.

“I am blessed with quality variety. There are a lot of options in terms of different skill sets. Our spinners and seamers complement each other well.

“Our opening batsmen are clean strikers of the ball. Their role is to attack in the power play. These partnerships are doing the damage upfront. Tian Heywood is averaging 52.25 in the league, while Wikus Arnott averages 75.”
