Happening today: Help Litter Bugs clean up Lakeside fountain

To get involved visit @LitterbugsBenoni on Facebook or contact samcholes@gmail.com.

Litter Bugs Park and Pavement clean-up group will have their first clean-up for the year today (January 21) at the Lakeside fountain, corner Main and Southy roads, Farrarmere, from 15:00 to 16:30.

The group is inviting anyone including schools, running clubs and businesses to get involved.

According to Samantha Choles, who is the co-founder of Litter Bugs, learners can join for community service hours for schools and businesses can assist with transporting the recycling bags or the bigger tasks of grass cutting where needed.

“We would love to have a landscaping or garden service company come on board to help us beautify little corners of Benoni.

“I also appeal to residents and businesses to look beyond their fences – keep your pavements clear of litter, open manholes and check stormwater drains for litter and potential blockages. Report major issues to the council,” said Choles.

Anyone who is interested in attending this clean-up initiative can visit @LitterbugsBenoni on Facebook or contact samcholes@gmail.com. Bags are supplied through Plastics SA’s Clean-Up And Recycle initiative.

Volunteers need to bring their own sturdy gloves, litter pickers or brooms and rakes. Covid protocols apply.
