Ekurhuleni serial rapist case postponed again

He was arrested in March last year, in Barcelona, Etwatwa.

The case against the Ekurhuleni serial rapist has been postponed to February 17 for a bail application.

Nkosinathi Phakathi briefly appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on January 18 to face 61 counts of rape, two counts of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery.

During the proceedings, the court heard that Phakathi’s attorney failed to formally apply for bail by reading the accused’s application into the record. The matter then had to be postponed.

Phakathi has allegedly been terrorising women and children in Benoni and other areas. Some of the rape cases that have been opened against him date back to 2012.

He was arrested in March last year, in Barcelona, Etwatwa, after the police searched for him for nearly nine years.
In July, Phakathi abandoned his bail application.
