Soccer, netball tournament winners announced

The event was hosted at the Crystal Park Tennis Courts.

The Dlala Dlala Netball and Soccer Tournament, hosted and organised yearly by Tsholofelo Hope Rakau, Rhulani Khosa and Jaguar, took place recently at the Crystal Park Tennis Courts.

Teams all over the East Rand competed. Soccer champs were Ama 10 FC and the netball winners were Mkgoba Stars.

“When we started this tournament, it began based on a healthy banter between high school friends on Facebook. It has now morphed into something people enjoy coming to and participating in,” said Rakau.

“Over the past four years, we have built a rapport strong enough to touch people in ways I have never imagined. I have never, in my wildest dreams, thought that what started just as an idea can be made into something that helps develop my community.”

The tournament is built on four pillars: sports and recreation, building strong lasting relationships, building and developing entrepreneurship and just good times.

“We plan to grow this brand for people and help cater to their needs. Our growth is contingent on your support and we would like to thank you (the City Times) and our community for the support given thus far,” he said.

According to Rakau, he saw nothing but character, courage and vigour like no other, even when the weather was not on their side.

“As the saying goes, ‘The eagle flies towards the storm, knowing the peace is above it. When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle, alone, flies towards it and soars above it.’

In the storms of life may your heart soar and go against problems, like an eagle.

“I must say, the difference between this saying and us is that during the tournament, we did it all together. Not just alone. We rose to the occasion. We are all eagles!

“Thank you and God bless you all. I and the team would like to wish you peace, light, love and prosperity. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year,” he concluded.

Next year’s tournament will take place at the end of February. Teams can register now by emailing dlaladlalasoccer@gmail.com
