St Francis College scoops top awards at Segarona Eisteddfod

Amongst the winners from the district was also the school’s visual artist, Tshepang Maja.

After what was deemed as an uncertain year for the cultural extra murals, the Gauteng Department of Education (Ekurhuleni North) extended an invitation to all the schools in the district to partake in the Segarona Eisteddfod.

St Francis College heeded the call and entered in as many categories as they could, among which involved unprepared speech, dramatised prose, prepared poetry, visual arts and vocal music for secondary schools.

The St Francis College choir under the tutelage of Mhletywa won first prize in the vocal music for the secondary schools category, thus securing a spot in the provincial finals.

“As a school, we are proud of the amazing work these learners have been able to achieve even during a global pandemic. We hope these achievements will be an inspiration to many others that even during times of uncertainty, one can still be creative,” said Mhletywa.
