Support Hospice’s Back-A-Buddy campaign

The funds raised or received will be paid towards salaries, medical supplies for patients and running costs.

While Covid-19 has hit many households on many fronts, Hospice East Rand (HER) has also taken a knock financially.

Refusing to sit back and do nothing, HER media and marketing liaison Jonquil Siepman jumped on the Back-A-Buddy campaign bandwagon to support Hospice.

“Due to Covid-19, we have noticed that many of our current and even new patients are struggling financially and many no longer have medical aids to fall back on,” she explained.

“We help all patients that fit the criteria for life-limiting illnesses regardless of financial situation.

“And this is where we rely on our community for donations of money or household items that we can resell in our charity shops to generate money to help these people.”

Despite the NPO taking a knock financially, the sisters continue to wake up every morning to help their patients.

The Back-A-Buddy campaign is Siepman’s of helping hands who help others.

“HER experienced a very hard two years financially, with fundraising being very limited due to the various lockdown levels,” she explained.

“This coupled with the emotional challenges, HER staff have experienced and especially our nursing staff who have all been faced with serious personal challenges this year.

“I saw this as an opportunity to highlight the angels they truly are. No matter what is happening behind the scenes, they have each gotten up every day and given their best to their patients and patients’ families and picked up their own pieces after hours.

“Quality of care has never been compromised and I wanted to highlight this to our community in asking for help with funding to keep these special ladies doing what they do best.

“With a Back-A-Buddy campaign, an individual needs to nominate an organisation. This is why I chose to create the campaign for HER.

“Working with these women, I have learnt who they each are, and they are so much more than just the function they perform daily. They are a lifeline and go above and beyond for the people they care for.

“We don’t receive any funding from the government. All funding is through fundraisers, community member donations or bequests.”

The funds raised or received will be paid towards salaries, medical supplies for patients and running costs.
