Rynfield youngster takes eighth spot at Nitro Pro Buggy champs

Rynfield resident Logan Erwee (12) has been involved in Nitro Buggy racing for less than two years and already racked up achievements and found the podium.

The 2021 Nitro Off-Road South African National Championships has concluded and, according to Logan, it was definitely one for the books.

He placed eighth overall for the year, as well as received recognition for being the youngest driver in the final.

“I want to say a huge thanks to my dad for all his help and killer pit stops in the A Main Final, as well as the three days of intensive spannering, to get the best performance out of my Mugen MBX 8 World Edition,” said the Laerskool Rynfield learner.

Placing in the top eight means Erwee has qualified to compete at the world championships in Spain towards September.

“I am very proud of my achievement. I still can’t believe I have done so well. It all feels very surreal,” he said.

The nitro-powered radio control buggy is a favourite among racers.

These buggies feature longer suspension travel which can handle different types of terrain and are controlled by the racer with mechanical remote control.

Another highlight for Erwee was winning the National RCX Championship Series junior and senior this year.

“I won four races junior and the senior sportsman’s class with only one race to go this weekend (November 14),” he explained.

But even with the one race still to go, Erwee has already won the title of RCX Sportsman’s Champion for 2021, junior and senior.

“I am an individual racer but I am part of Zwartkops RC. I enjoy racing very much, especially with my dad by my side.

“My dad is my pitman and mechanic and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without him,” concluded Erwee.
