Local entertainment partners with St Dunstan’s

While Graham controls the production side, his wife, Denise Roderick controls the music element.

When great people reside in Benoni, then we can expect nothing but greatness to come out of Benoni, which is what the Roderick couple brings to the table through Nebula Music & Production Co.

“I have been fascinated by images of nebulae and it seems appropriate to call my enterprise Nebula as it has been a “nursery” for the development of new talent and creating the stars of the future in all aspects of the performing arts,” said founder Graham Roderick.

“Nebula Entertainment (a focus area of Nebula Music & Production Co.) identified an absence of top-class musical theatre, opera and ballet from our local entertainment world.

“I approached the Royal Opera House and Royal Shakespeare Co. and they agreed to Nebula becoming the exclusive cinematic distributor for Southern Africa.”

While Graham controls the production side, his wife, Denise, controls the music element.

“All of the materials we screen and distribute are recordings of actual live stage shows,” Graham explained.

“As an example, typically, we receive the Royal Opera House productions approximately 14 days after the commencement of their live performances in Covent Garden, so the content is as current as it can possibly be.

“The Shakespeare plays are all recorded at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and command the very best actors around.”

The Benoni couple has recently collaborated with St Dunstan’s School and will screen the productions from the E John Butler Centre.

“Back when we first started, we screened these films in my lounge in Rynfield, which was keenly followed and supported,” Graham reminisced.

“There used to be a fiercely keen group of lady balletomanes from the north of Joburg, who would charter a minibus taxi to bring them through on a Sunday afternoon to watch the ballets.

“From back then the interest has grown and we have evolved from those early days to the wonderful facilities of St Dunstan’s E John Butler Centre for the Arts, whose focus is on the development and furtherance of the arts. A match made in heaven!”

Nebula now has exhibitors in Tshwane, Makhanda, Sasolburg, Durban and Cape Town with Gqeberha, Welkom, Hoedspruit and Windhoek in the pipeline.
