Man arrested for kidnapping, attempted murder of ex-girlfriend

The man was charged for kidnapping, assault GBH and attempted murder.

A 40-year-old man who kidnapped and assaulted his girlfriend was arrested on October 22 in Putfontein.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said police were alerted by community members on October 18 that the man had forced the woman into her vehicle at gunpoint.

“As members were patrolling a few days later, they came across the vehicle fitting the description given by the residents and intercepted it.

“Upon seeing the police, the driver got out and fled on foot,” said Ubisi.

“The police gave chase and the man started firing at them as he ran off.”
Ubisi said the victim was found in the vehicle.

“She told police she had found the man, who is her ex-boyfriend, inside her house. A window and burglar bars had been broken to gain entry.

“The woman further said the man assaulted her with the firearm and threatened to shoot her should she not follow instructions.

“Detectives convinced the suspect to come to the station to resolve the matter with the ex-girlfriend.

“When he arrived he was arrested and charged with kidnapping, assault GBH and attempted murder.”

The case was open at the Putfontein Police Station.
