The Benoni Lakes Lions Club cleans Homestead dam

After all the hard work, all who participated were invited for a braai, where they relaxed and enjoyed the fruits of their hard work in clean surroundings at Homestead.

The Benoni Lakes Lions Club and the Atlasville Organisation joined forces to clean up Homestead Dam on October 16.

The clean-up commenced in Freeman Street and volunteers then made their way along the dam.

Beaulieu Maré, president of the Benoni Lakes Lions Club, said they assisted the Atlasville Organisation with a clean-up in Atlasville recently and were then challenged to help clean Homestead – a challenge they gladly accepted.

“I am grateful to everyone who came to assist. We believe that one person can make a difference and with more people, we can make a bigger difference.

“We hope the community will continue cleaning the environment and encourage others to do the same.

Pierre Marneweck, of the Atlasville Organisation, said that they were very happy with the turnout.

“This was more than what we had the last time and next time will be even better.”

He added that they would be challenging other organisations and businesses to get involved in keeping the environment clean.

Refuse bags and gloves were provided and all Covid-19 protocols were observed.

After all the hard work, all who participated were invited for a braai, where they relaxed and enjoyed the fruits of their hard work in clean surroundings at Homestead.
