Wheelie bins coming in November

To make arrangements residents are encouraged to call the Benoni Solid Waste Depot on 011 999 6825.

The metro has ordered new wheelie bins and delivery is expected in November, said metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Once received, bins will immediately be issued to those who requested new bins or replacements. According to the metro, they are under immense pressure to meet the demand for wheelie bins.

Dlamini said the metro is collecting refuse bags in the affected areas in the interim to ensure they at least adhere to its constitutional mandate.

In a recent City Times article, “Residents without wheelie bins for over two months”, Ward 28 councillor Mary Goby said the metro had not had stock of wheelie bins, which had resulted in a waiting list of over 200 for new bins.

A frustrated Benoni resident posted on social media that she had been trying to get a wheelie bin for months with no luck so decided to purchase one from a store.

According to the resident, after she put this bin out for waste collection the workers walked to the bin but did not remove her refuse.

Dlamini explained interim arrangements can be made with the area manager to permit the placement of refuse bags while waiting for the issue of new or replacement bins.

“The area manager will ensure the relevant collection teams are given the instruction,” he said.

Residents are encouraged to call the Benoni Solid Waste Depot on 011 999 6825to make an arrangement of this nature.
